Hi Carolyn,

It’s possible that your great grandson has been diagnosed with what is called Non-Classical CAH and the doctors have decided not to treat him yet. Hopefully they are monitoring him closely though for height and other hormone levels and later bone age (xrays).

Eight teeth for 12 months old sounds about right.

Yes usually both parents do have to carry a CAH gene mutation to pass it onto their child. There is the odd occasion where only one parent may carry and pass on a mutated gene and the baby also develops a de-novo mutation (meaning a new mutation develops) but this is very unlikely.

If the couple have other children then it would be a very good idea to have them tested - even more so if it is Non-Classic as it doesn’t always become apparent for a few years.
