Yes ... it does get easier.  As the children get older, they are better able to communicate how they are feeling and that makes it easier for you to decide exactly what to do and how to react.  Also, as our kids got older, and had a crisis which resulted in a shot or an ER visit or an inpatient stay, we would subsequently talk to them about what happened and what THEY were feeling physically when it all happened.  We tried to get they to be able to identify the symptoms so they themselves became more familiar with their own bodies.  Now, for the MOST part, at ages 13 and 15, THEY are able to identify when they need a stress dose and THEY tell ME.  Or they’ll say ... yeah I don’t feel good but it’s ok I don’t need extra meds.  We try to use every medical event as a learning opportunity for them so little by little they are becoming more medically independent.  So try to hang in there.  It will get better!
