re: quit taking meds

Donna,
I do not have this, but have been diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency. I take cortef to replace to cortisol I lose. I am also a medical student. If you are on any steroids at all it is not safe to just stop taking the meds. This can cause an adrenal crisis. I have had three of them since Christmas and they are no fun. Steroids have to be slowly tapered off directed by a physician, usually done at 5mg alternating down weekly dosage at different times to remain ballanced. Do not stop taking your meds, I get frustrated on mine because of the side effects like weight gain and all. At times I’ve thought about just ditching my meds, but I know I can’t. Because I know what will happen. Just play it safe and stay with the dosage your endocrinologist has you on. That’s the best way. Take care & God Bless- Julie
