SueHi Eden,
I remember how terribly hard those days were. We used to put our son’s salt in a syringe and squirt tiny amounts in his mouth and he would scream and scream. Then we decided to put it in a 2 ounce bottle and give him that. (I was breastfeeding too, so I would just pump and put it in the bottle.) He breastfed fine until he was 7 month’s old (at that point, he simply weaned himself and went to a bottle full time). He was never turned off by it because of the salt. As time goes on, your son will require less salt b/c he’ll be getting it in food. My son just turned one and he is almost off of the sodium chloride because it’s in the food he eats or we can sprinkle some on if I don’t think the food has enough. He gets blood work every 2-3 months so the endocrinologist knows if he has enough. Our routine is still to add salt to his morning bottle (2 ounces) and then we give him a follow up bottle without salt. (We do the 2 ounces b/c we know for sure he’ll drink that amount.) And then he gets a little more sodium chloride with his dinner. I just mix it right in his food.
I responded to your other post too. Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m happy to try to answer.
Susan
