I worried about this too but we found a woman that lives in our community and she fell in love with our son.  She will do anything to keep him in good health and knows what to do in case of an emergency.  She has her own emergency kit in the diaper bag that I give to her every day (with a letter from the endocrinologist stating what he has and what he needs in case of an emergency).  She will not give a shot though, but knows to call 911 and to say that he is adrenal insufficient and needs a steriod shot and fluids immediately.  She also has cortisone suppositories.  So if our son starts vomitting, she can give him that until me or my husband arrive.  She even brought him to the hospital once when we were new to all of this and my son puked twice.  She called me and I got scared so she said she’d take him to the hospital and me and my husband met her there.  (We live pretty close to the hospital.)  I think back to that time and we probably overreacted, but it’s new and it’s scary and you’ll hear how you can go into an adrenal crisis quickly, so we take no chances.

She found it helpful when we gave her pamphlets about CAH from the Cares Foundation.

I hope some of this information helps!  It always seemed to me like my endocrinologist preferred in-home licensed daycare instead of a big public daycare.  Your child is less likely to get sick and will more than likely get more attention since there are usually less kids.  So that’s what we went for.  It made us the most comfortable and so far it’s been great.

Good luck!
