CatherineEden, I didn’t have time to read through all the posts so this may have been suggested already. My SW son is 21 months now. We absolutely HATED giving him the salt as a young baby. It was the hardest thing every day. Our baby rarely cried except for the salt dose. I was prescribed 1ml liquid soduium chloride which I was to give him with an oral syringe 3x a day. Mixing with formula or breastmilf didn’t help, he wouldn’t drink a drop. What helped was that I ended up spacing it out to 6x a day because of the gagging, reflux and and upset. So a smaller dose, chilled so it tasted less and it didn’t hurt if he was asleep and I could kinda slip some to the back of the throat with the oral syringe before he knew he swallowed it. I still give him some liquid salt every day just to be sure he gets enough. He still doesn’t like it but he swallows it.
Be sure he gets his salt. Our son’s SWCAH was not diagnosed until he was 15 days old and he was severely dehydrated although he had been drinking it can happen quickly. I can tell if he’s getting dehydrated by looking at his lips, they’ll look a bit dry. Then just a little extra salt.
Good luck. I know how it feels like you are making your little guy suffer to give it to him. I used to tell my newborn (and I think he understood, emotionally, if not verbally) that he needed this to live and we love him and want him to live.
God bless all CAH moms
