I am sorry this reply is late, I hope you get to see it. I’m sure if you have seen any of my posts in the past, you would see I have struggled with the decision. I can see good in having the surgery up to age 2. No memory, quicker healing, less scarring, no noticiable change in sensation. Some have had the surgery at 3 or 4 and done well. The advantage of being pre puberty or adolescence is less traumatic stenosis and the patient can feel involved, it’s her body. Yet no teen can fully understand orgasm or lowered sensation if any. So I think even at an older age parents are still making the decision. But that is our job as parents. Surgery in baby hood depends a lot on the dgree of virilization and the family. I just came from the conference and heard Dr. Poppas speak. If you are gonna do it, do it with him. I fully believe surgery can be delayed in milder cases of virilization and the kid will be fine. It sucks getting genital surgery at any age and all we can do is give our kids love, acceptance, and honesty. Ask any gynecologist and they will tell you labias and clitorises vary in appearance greatly. So if you wait, remind your daughter of this yet be honest. Dr. Poppas said sometimes an 8 year old will drag their parents in and say they want the surgery. Do what works for your family and daughter and know whatever you choose, you are not alone and other parents have made the same choice surgery in babyhood or pre puberty out of love for their child. There is no perfect answer.j wood
