Well, our daughter had her surgery 15 years ago, so maybe things have changed.  However, we began her stress dosing the day before the scheduled surgery, and went to the hospital the actual day of the surgery.  They told us to count on a 5 day stay, but she did so well, we were out in only 3 days. She recovered quickly without any problems, surgically or from the excess hydrocortisone.  Hope that helps.  Best of luck.
