Carol M.Shell,
If you look on "standard" drug equivalency charts, you are liable to see that 1 mg of prednisone is equivalent to about 5 mg of hydrocortisone, which would make 35 mg of hydro equal to abou 7.0 mg of prednisone. However, that is the equivalency used for treatment of inflammation, not adrenal insufficiency.
As has been discussed before re. equivalencies for dexamethasone, the equivalency for treatment of adrenal insufficiency, may be closer to 10:1. That would make 35 mg of hydro. closer to only 3.5 mg of prednisone.
If you are switching, I would make sure your doctor is aware of the new studies put out by a Canadian group on this subject, so as to have the most informed game-plan. I am at work right now and don’t have it in front of me, but can dig up the cite later for you, if you’d like. Good luck.
