ToniaHey Positive Mom! Great post idea. Sometimes the board is a little like the news, you don’t hear alot of positive things. But, we do learn from so many things here.
My 2 daughters, 8 & 10 years old, both have ssw cah. When they were born, I felt all sorts of anxiety and fear. But I needed to empower myself with knowledge so I set myself on a journey to learn as much as I could. This was before message boards and internet in almost every home. So, believe it or not I did it through snail mail and phone calls. I felt so much better and became determined to make sure my kids never felt as though they were disabled in anyway but know all they could about their cah to become responsible for themselves someday. Ups and downs through the years, we have met some amazing people!
My daughters are active in soccer, church, choir, clubs, get good grades in school, go to sleepovers and enjoy life. I often think they appreciate things a bit more because they have had some really hard times with crisis, hospital and illnesses. They seem to have a glow and a zest for life! We go on several vacations every summer and they even spend 2 weeks in Michigan with grandma and grandpa by themselves. They don’t really view each other as different from their peers and they easily make friends.
During my fear in the "early days", I never imagined the girls would have such a normal life. I never knew what would happen but we’ve settled in nicely to a routine and happy life that has the occasional illnesses, drs visits and hospital trips. And after spending yesterday with my sisters’ kids, I’m convinced I have the best kids in our whole family. :)
Best to you and your family!
