re: first time injecting solu-cortef (also a note to Wendy Lee)

Way to go!!!!! Scary! (clap clap clap!) wooo hoooo! Once you get past the first one, the others are easy. Way to go!

I don’t give any advice for staying home from the hospital/E.R. because I think that is where my 9 year old daughter that has SWCAH,  best belongs when she has a stomach virus, or flu. I try and not second guess myself for staying home or going. I almost did this past spring with my daughter and SHE was the one that said she needed to go to the E.R. And sure enough she did. It is nice when they can talk to you and communitcate how they are feeling. She had a vomitting bug. Stomach viruses or flu, I don’t take chances. There has been times we took her to the E.R. and all her labs came back at safe levels but that peace of mind was well worth the trip for me. Better to be safe then sorry is my motto. In the past some things have worked and we have been able to avoid the E.R. Like giving lots of sugary fluids, Solu Cortef, or triple doses of Cortef. BUT this year, was a whole new ballgame for us. This year she didn’t react well to those things at home. Now I will never not take her in if she is that bad off. It is just me. Some may have some better advice but for me, I just take her to the E.R.

Giving lots of fluids, and make sure they have sugar in them because these kids can get into trouble with their sugar levels. Wendy-Lee ran into that problem once. If you are reading this Wendy, inject here. Her daughter vomitted, she gave the Solu Cortef shot, and the next morning her daughter’s sugar was dangerously low. So the Solu Cortef shot worked, but she still must have needed that bolus of fluids with sugar. (WendyLee, am I correct? Let me know) I can’t remember too clearly. It has always made me conscience of getting that sugar into my daughter when she is so sick like that. Perhaps get a glucose monitor. We never did but was offered it when my daughter was a toddler. I may get one now that she is older. Well I hope this helped some. Let us know how she is doing. Look at you. You gave your fist shot! You get your metal of bravery girl! Take care, give her lots of kisses. Before you know it...."This too shall pass."  You learn with every virus. I am STILL learning with every virus. God bless!
