Catrina,

How is Grace doing?  I’ll say a prayer for her.

You just did the best and worst thing a mother ever has to do.  But you did it!  And you very well could have saved her life!  As far as stomach bugs go, I wouldn’t try to avoid the ER.  We have 2 daughters, 8 & 10, both with ssw cah.  My oldest daughter almost always responds to medical stress with puking so it is difficult sometimes to know if it’s a stomach bug or her body’s response.  I can usually tell by giving the shot,  If it’s not a stomach bug, she usually stops throwing up after the solu cortef.  Regardless, we give the shot (always before the ER), give 7 up or gatorade and see what happens from there.  If the vomiting still continues, we go to the ER.  Adrenal crisis is not the only concern with these kids.  You have to consider the dehydration and hypoglycemia, which happen often in both of my daughters.  Even when their electrolytes are balanced.

Please keep us posted on how Grace is doing.  If you want to talk further you can reach me at Tonia@caresfoundation.org

Blessings,

Tonia
