I had mono when I was 16.

It started out with me feeling like I had the flu, I was exhausted.  I wasn’t necessarily running a fever.  I felt extremely run down.  And then it seemed like my throat was tightening up so my Mom took me to the doctor and they tested for strep and it came back negative so they tested for strep and it came back positive.

They gave me antibiotics, but I don’t remember what kind.  It totally knocks out your immune system so you are susceptible to other illnesses while having mono.  I could not go to school for 30 days from the onset of the antibiotics.  Of course, I didn’t even feel good for about 2 weeks.  Then I contracted a lip infection and had to miss another week of school.

The doctor advised me to be very cautious about my health for 6 months after having mono because the immune system is still weak.

I hope that helps, I don’t know what it would be like for a CAH’er to have mono.  My SWCAH daughter had croup twice when she was 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 and she did just fine and croup is worse than mono.
