I dont have cah, so I haven’t been in your shoes...but have been bfing for about 4 years now, so maybe I can give you some tips??Kristy
I would also recommend finding a good lactation consultant (preferably one that is Internationally Board Certified, IBCLC...they’re much more knowledgable) or a la leche league leader/group. Here’s a link to find a leader in your area
http://www.lalecheleague.org/WebUS.htmlHow old is your baby? How do you know that you’re not producing enough milk? How long is your baby nursing for?
If you’re judging the amount you’re producing by the amount you’re able to pump, then DONT do that...the amount you’re able to pump is in no way an indicator of how much you’re producing..some women just cant let down to a pump, and some take awhile to get used to the pump. While pumping, look at a picture of your baby or hold something that smells like her, and RELAX...stress has a huge impact on your let down. Is your baby gaining weight? I would try to feed her more frequently than 3-4 hours. breastfed babies need to eat more often because the milk digests so much easier and quicker. Really, the only way to tell how much she’s getting is by weighing her before and after a feeding, or by counting her wet diapers...she should be having at least 6 wet diapers a day. If she’s having that many and gaining weight, there’s probably no need to worry. Here’s a link that goes over the diaper count and other things you might find useful....
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/enough-milk.htmlIf supply is really an issue, I’ve read that by eating an extra bowl of oatmeal a day can help boost supply. There’s a herbal tea called ’Mothers Tea’ that will help, or a herb that you can find at most health food stores called ’fenugreek’. Here’s some info on that...
http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milksupply/fenugreek.htmlHere’s a great link on how to tell if you have low supply and if you do, what things to avoid or do...
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-supply.htmland here’s a great bfing message board, if you want support or have any other questions...lots of experienced moms over there (although none have experience with cah)...
http://dgroups.parents.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=PT-BrstfeedI hope some of this helps...let me know if you have any other questions. IMO, I would talk to someone else other than your OB or even your endo about bfing because most aren’t educated enough to give out proper information....same goes for pediatricians, many give out HORRIBLE bf information.
All the best...
