We went through with the surgery and my daughter did great.  I would not call it a walk in the park.  There were good things about her being little and getting the surgery such as quick healing and she could care less who saw her genitals since she’s used to diaper changes.  But I can’t help but feel that if she were an adult she could communicate better regarding where her pain level was at.  I tried to guess and stay ahead of the pain.  You really have to harass some of the nurses to come with meds on time even her cortisol.  Other nurses were great and very kind.  Over all her pain was managed and she was trying to play the next day.  I brought so many new toys and movies, she was well occupied.  Already, I’m glad she doesn’t have smelly urine.  This was a problem for us- it was strong smelling.

When I first started visiting this forum, I made some strong statements and I was against infant surgery unless truly medically necessary.  But the more I read old archives from adults with CAH the more I learned, and the reasons behind it.  I still would always recomend waiting as an option to new parents vising this site.  As i think it can work depending on circumstances.  I will not know if I did the right thing till my daughter tells me her feelings as a young adult.  I really feel I’ve taken a bit of a gamble regarding how she’ll feel.  But I know I had many reasons out of concern and love for her.  Thank you Aime, Cherry, and all the adult women that have shared their personal experiences and view points.  By the way my daughter is really itchy which the doctor said is normal, I can’t believe I never reead about that.  I am giving her benadryl and dermoplast spray has worked great.  She asks for the"itchy spray".  So thats all for now and I welcome all responses even sad or negative ones, no one should have to keep silent about their feelings and views.  Knowledge is power.
