23 y/o female Not Wanting to Treat NCAH
Dec. 28th, 2006   1:04pm
My path to being diagnosed with NCAH began when I went to have my annoying facial hair removed at a laser center. I always felt like I may have had a hormonal imbalance but previous gynecologists only tested my thyroid and never adrenal levels. Turns out I have been diagnosed with NCAH. My periods are generally regular, I do not have bad acne and though I am short (4’11"), my weight which was very high in my teen years, has been more average since maintaining a low-fat diet. I do experience some lethargy and a slight dependence on caffeine.

My endocrinologist wants to treat me with a .25 mg. dosage of dexamethasone. I do not feel as though, for at this point a primarily cosmetic concern, I should commit to lifelong treatment with a potentially harmful steroid. I am also disturbed that it could make me gain weight.

I was thinking of just going the route of laser hair removal and maybe start taking Yaz, for birth control and also see how it affects my body hair.

Can anyone PLEASE advice whether this choice would be wise and/or other alternatives I may have? I’d also like to hear if anyone in the same position has taken Yaz and the side effects. Thank you!!
