I think you are being way too hard on yourself!  Unless I misunderstood what you wrote, the worst thing about giving the HC was that the tests had to be rescheduled.  Granted, that is a pain in the neck, but if it had been a true medical emergency which required the HC, the tests would have had to be rescheduled anyway. 

The other thing is...while we have to be advocates for our children and insist on a certain minimum standard of care, I don’t believe any self-respecting doctor or hospital would purposefully administer a medication that they believe would cause potential harm to a patient, just because of an insistent parent.  So, clearly, the hospital did not believe the HC would cause your son harm either, even if--strictly speaking--it may not have been needed.  So, again--in my opinion--you should forgive yourself!
