boys with CAH

I haven’t really seen anyone on here talk about this, but male genitals are also effected by CAH. When my son was born his penis was 2.5 inches long and his testicles were black. I had a c-section so I couldn’t see him immediately, but the first thing my husband said was "his penis is really big". I did the inner-eye-roll thinking, "is this all men really think about?" But when I saw our son I also had to agree that he was large for a newborn.  The pediatrician said it was normal, but then a week later, when the screen came back positive for CAH and we started our roller-coaster, his appearance seemed to be symptomatic of the disease.  Anyway, since being on the medication for 5 months, he looks totally normal for his age now.

All this to say ...I felt very weird when the endo was taking polaroids of his genitals for his file. And a friend of mine asked if his penis would always stay big like that and wouldn’t that be good for his girlfriend?...it’s like ok ha ha, I know she meant well, but I was so upset at the time with my baby having a potentially life-threatening disease, that I really didn’t see the humor in it.
