Possible that I might have CAH?? Not PCOS? Info requested!

I am a 30 year old woman and I recently visited an endocrinologist after complaining to my doctor about a long time problem (since around age 10 or 11) with male pattern hair growth (hirsutism - as a child mostly just a mustache, as a teenager some sideburns and chin hairs, as an adult, MUCH worse on my chin and neck, fingers, breasts and lower abdomen)  Before referring me to the endocrinologist, my primary care physcian did all the necessary hormone exams (blood testing, vaginal and abdominal ultra sounds.)  I was told I could possibly have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (http://www.4woman.gov/faq/pcos.htm#1), however there were no cysts found on my ovaries and everything internal checked out fine.  I was told that while all my hormone, blood sugar and insulin levels were "within normal range," they were all on the HIGH end of "normal" and I was referred to an endocrinologist.  My endo told me that it is still possible to have PCOS without the presence of cysts on the ovaries (after online research, I have found that this is debatable in the medical industry.)  He also told me that I either have PCOS or CAH, proceeded to prescribe me with Actos, and told me to come back in a month to see if my testosterone levels decreased.  After a month, I returned to find out they did in fact decrease, "but not as much as he would have liked"  was told to continue medication for three more months and come back again!  He said if the Actos didn’t work that I have CAH!  Isn’t there some sort of testing he can (or should) do first to find out if I have CAH before he decides I have it be default??

After speaking with my mother, she informed me that I had to start wearing deoderant at the age of five, and I was a B-Cup with pubic hair (and VERY hairy legs and arms - still do) by the 4th grade.  I have decided to ask for a second opinion, but do not really even know where to begin on what questions to ask my doctor, and whether or not my thoughts that I might have CAH are valid.  I just want some answers because my hair patterns and weight gain patterns (I only gain weight around my mid-section:  no where else) just do not seem normal...  Any suggestions or insights??  Anything would be appreciated!!!
