buggsDear Stephanie,
I write this with respect.
I was wondering what your kid’s endo thought of this camp?
As a thinner teen, I went to horseback riding camp in the winter time no less and slept on hay bales in a sleeping bag and also covered in my horse’s cooler.
I think they should eat what he sent instead of school food.
I was born with CAH ( take 25mgs hydrocortisone/day) and now also being treated for a thyroid condition( genetic hashimoto’s thyroiditis & take synthroid .112 mgs/day) besides asthma that flares up every so often plus I was found to have celiac sprue *can’t have wheat/gluten) plus I’m a cancer survivor for two years and one of the causes was obesity. I had my gall bladder out a year ago because I’m fat and I’m staring down diabetes if I don’t lose the weight. It’s starting to hurt my feet to walk at times becuase of the excess weight that I have and is really just 40 extra pounds.
Fat camp? A place to be with other kids that have weight issues from outside circumstances as well and they get to have support from each other and learn under medical supervison how to eat better and exercise to help them cope with those outside conditions? I think that is awesome but I’m just one shumk on the internet and if you decide not to send your kid and that is your right as a parent : ) would your ex send me to an adult fat camp : P I have to break a sweat to loose any weight at all and if I didn’t watch my weight a little and put forth some exercise then I would be fatter then I all ready am/ I can say "Oh well....I take synthroid and hydrocortiosne and those drungs put on the weight so I’m not going to exercise to take it off and then other things will happen because of that.
You not liking me very much and most people don’t but I think your husband is trying to help your kid providing the Endo and primary Doc is on board with this.
I do get this because I also was over supressed for a long period of time and I shiver to think that woman endo is still out there...she wasn’t bad but I hope she eventually learned before she ruined someone else . See, I always took prednisone untill age 33 and wasn’t that chuncky until one endo decides that I needed more pred when I was younger and had me taking 20mgs of prednisone per day and pred is 8 times as strong as hydro. I went from 132 to 172 and I don’t think that any growth hormone would of thinned that out : P wanting someone to be taller is one thing but still gonna be tall and fatter because loosing the weight came from eatting better...their father is on a heathfood kick?.....awesome and I hope it becomes a healthfood lifestyle and from being active in the sports and activities that I liked.
When I exercised and ate healthy the weight came off even with the pred at the time and now hydro& synthroid.
When I was a kid or teen and was active the weight really didn’t stay on. I stopped being active to my level and eatting right when the one endo gave me more pred and I wonder if I hadn’t stopped then maybe the weight wouldn’t of come on that much.
I do wish you all well and I’ve been there.
I have to work up a sweat to loose any weight and have always been like that. There are certain foods that I just can’t have....pasta ...ice cream .... : P
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Aimee
