MicheleMy daughter was diganosed with non-classical CAH when she was 9 years old. She started taking Cortef three times a day and the Soluf-Cortef was always handy. As she got older, 15 ,the doctor changed her medicine to Predisone of 2.5 twice a day. She was in school and the Predisone made her very anxious, excited et cetera. We took her off and put her back on the Cortef. During that summer we tried the Predisone again and she did fine. The doctor increased the doage of Predisone to 5mg twice a day. This was at least six months ago.
When she went back to school after the holidays she called me as she felt very confused, anxious and in a different "zone" as she says.
She takes an antidepressant for depression and has been since she was 9. Her doctor said to increase it. I took her to the ( psychiatric) E.R. for her depression/anxiousness and found her blood pressure was 164/109. I then took her to Children’s Hospital and they kept her overnight. They gave her a blood pressure med to bring it down and a consult from a renal doctor. I requested an endrocrine consult, but they insisted renal was all that was needed and that it would not have come down if it was caused by the Predisone.
It’s now back up top 130/100. I have an appointment with her endo on Tuesday. She’s 16. She weighs 164. If anyone has any advice/comment I would appreciate it.
