SherryMy 3.5 yr old daughter seems to suffer about this time of year with runny nose, nagging dry cough and it goes on till around March. Last night she literally coughed ALL night. She sometimes, more often then not actually coughs so hard she gags and usually ends up vomiting. I gave her two nebulizer treatments, they didn’t work. Cough syrup didn’t work, the Claritin her doctor gave her doesn’t work obviously.
Last year about the beginning of February I really believe that she went or was going into a crisis. She had the same symptoms, and as a result ended up in a chain reaction that she just couldn’t pull herself out of. Instead of just vomiting with the dry cough, she began to almost continually vomit. Her doctor advised us to give her a stress shot and take her to the ER. My husband and I were inexperienced with giving a shot and decided to wait till I got to the ER for them to give it to her. We figured out that was a mistake. My daugther had to wait in the waiting room for about 20 minutes, they wouldn’t give her the shot! I should have called the Ped Endo on call...
Anyways I refuse to let her get to that point again! Her doctor figures it is allergies. The only allergies that are aparent (from my own research anyways) are mold and dust mites. I’m taking her back to the doctor to demand that they have her into an allergist asap and have her tested so we can get her some relief! It scares me to see her throw up like that. And she shouldn’t have to go through something so stressful, especially for her! She was shaking and so tired, but she just couldn’t stop coughing.
Just looking for support, maybe some answers. Do any of your children have allergies? If so how do you handle them? How did you have them diagnosed? What types of medication do they have to take to manage them?
I hate to have her take more medication on top of her normal meds for CAH, but I really feel if she doesn’t get some kind of relief she will go into crisis again, and I absolutely refuse to let that happen!
