re: Sick and tired for my daughter

I feel for you! I have some experience with allergies, so I’ll offer you some suggestions. Yes, it would be a good idea to go to an allergist; however, the skin testing is no fun. They prick your back about 50 times with different allergens and see where you get a reaction. There is blood testing that is also available, but I don’t believe it’s as accurate.

My husband suffers from that nagging cough all winter. It seems to not be from his lungs but from a tickle in his throat, probably due to postnasal drip. He got allergy tested and everything was negative. But the dr gave him Nasacort, a steroid nasal spray, and it has helped alot. My daughter and I are prone to sinus infections, and we use it, too. That’s another thing to consider with your daughter--a sinus infection.

My son has all the environmental allergies and Claritin does not work well for him, either. Allegra and Zyrtec are better, but they are prescription drugs. The Zyrtec can make you drowsy. My daughter couldn’t take it because of that. If the allergies are very bad, then they can do the immunotherapy, where you take a series of shots to build up your immunity to the allergan. People say that it is well worth it, though we never tried it. If she does have mold and dust mite allergies, there are environmental things you can do to reduce those things in the house, which the allergist should tell you.

Hope this helps!
