LizCongrats on learning that you were pregnant. I remember how shocked I was when I read the results of the home pregnancy test. I had to take it 2 times to say "Okay yeah I am in fact pregnant." Considering I have had CAH for so long, I never believed I would conceive a baby since I have had irregular periods and did not ovulate too much. Guess God had other plans for me. :-)
I have SWCAH and they increased my Florinef quite a bit because I guess I wasn’t getting enough salt during my pregnancy. As for my regular medication, I was on prednisone and they told me that it didn’t pass the placenta and that I needed to take dexamethasone. So I ended up taking 5mg of Dexamethasone from the time I was 18/20 weeks pregnant on. I have previously taken Dexa and I had reservations because it had made me get a moon face, gain weight, and acne previously, but I wanted to do it for my babies sake and I took it. I did get all those symptons again even though they had me on a low dosage, but it was worth it because now I have a little 2 month old girl.
As for delivery since my pelvis was narrow like a boys (even though I had a 5lbs 10 oz 17.5" long baby) I could only have the baby cesearan. They had tried to get me to have her naturally, but I was unable to. So I wasted from 8 a.m. till about 7:30 p.m. on patocin trying to have my baby naturally. I only dilated to 3cm, so they finally scheduled me to have a cesearan. My OB tried, but was unsuccessful. I saw a normal OB and I had to see my endocrinologist every month so that he could see my symptoms, check my blood levels, and talk to me about the baby, etc. At one point I had an OB schedule me to see a high risk pregnancy doctor, but she believed I was fine to do it all on my own. All I had to do was go into the hospital and have a solu cortef drip for stress.
Good luck and I hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to contact me at ebryan09@hotmail.com
I hope all goes well..
Liz
