Haven’t tried the orange tic tacs, as I try to steer clear of artificial colourings.

Nola, I have read somewhere that when the 17-ohp is elevated (I don’t know how elevated though) as in an untreated CAH person, it can have an effect on plasma renin levels which can then be elevated. Plasma renins (to put it very simply) indicate how hard the kidney is working to retain salt. I’m not all that sure of the actual mechanism of pathology for this and how it relates to untreated LOCAH people. Probably depends on what mutations they have.

It is well known that all CAH people have some disturbance in ability to retain salt. Generally the less enzyme activity a person has in the steroid pathway, the worse this salt retention capability is. If people have a mild -moderate enzyme deficiency, as in LOCAH, then the salt retention factor is not such a problem, as only small amounts of enzyme activity are needed for aldosterone function.
