My daughter is now 17. She started her periods at 13, 1 month; first one seemed normal, then she didn’t have another for 4 months. Shortly after that she had an allergic reaction of hives, which never went away. In searching for the cause of her chronic hives, it was discovered that she had high testosterone. Then she went to an obgyn, who diagnosed probable PCOS and prescribed the Yasmin. By the time she started that, she was almost 15. Her periods had been averaging about 3 months apart. Then as I read about PCOS, I began to question that diagnosis and so the gyn tested her 17 ohp, which was over 300. So then for almost a year she went off the Yasmin while trying to get into an endo and have the stim test done, which came back in the carrier range. So then a year or so ago, the gyn put her back on the Yasmin. Interestingly, her periods during the year she was off the Yasmin no longer were far apart, but were still irregular. After the first one, they have always been very scant, even when months apart.KatSo this is her story, sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to show that maybe a gynocologist would be more willing to prescribe bcp, since they do it all the time for PCOS, and also that periods can vary quite a bit at first. But I would be concerned about the very heavy ones becuase of the possibility of anemia, as I mentioned before.
