I didn’t have a good experience with the dex either: besides slightly higher BP, I had the insomnia, heartburn, acne, moonface (although I only gained about 22 lbs in the end), itchy skin, etc. I also had a major shut-down of my own immune system, so caught every cold and flu bug there was; also ended up with kidney stones during my last trimester (likely not dex or CAH related), carpel tunnel flare up, major bladder and bronchial infections that lasted most of the 2nd and 3rd trimester, and an inner ear infection that was so bad and painful that I couldn’t hear for 3 mo. after dd was born, and I had to see an ENT doc. for almost a year afterward. Also developed a heart murmur.... which may or may not be related. I am definately the worse case scenerio that I’ve ever heard about on dex.Wendy-LeeI DID have to take it all the way through my pregnancy, as dd does have SW CAH. It was horrible, and I will never do it again.
That said, I will also say that it was worth every pimple, cough and stretch mark, because it did exactly what it was supposed to. I don’t care one bit if my dd would have just had some enlargement of her genitals, but I KNOW parents of children who have MAJOR urinary tract problems, that require MANY surgeries and can affect their bladder control, kidney function ... even possibly their fertility. I may sound very rigid here, but I can’t imagine NOT taking this risk for my child. I will not do it again, but I would do it again in a heartbeat for my precious daughter. I have never regretted taking the dex.
