re: Dex in Pregnancy and Long Term Implications study - Abstract

Thank you for posting this Megan. I am sure you struggled with it. But you know what, this is how we all learn. Information. We need to know what is out there. I have struggled with having another baby years ago. After reading the effects that Dex could have on the mother, I thought I would have to weigh the pros and cons. I asked myself, ok, could I afford extra weight that could higher my blood pressure ect.? And the other side affects that could come with taking the Dex. The bottom line was the health of the mother. Would it jeopardize the health of the mother because without the mom, there would be no child. If it didn’t then great, if it did then maybe opting not to use Dex would be the choice, or even one step further, not getting pregnant. We all struggle with making choices for our children with CAH. What burns me is there is not enough research done for the treatment of our children. Yes there is some great things being done but I hate to see even a second spent on the boy girl behaviour research that seem to be more eye catching to a scientist then anything. I first want a healthy child. After watching my daughter endure the surgery I would do anything to prevent it. I guess with this study you have to ask yourself, at what price would it be to take the Dex.? The surgery can be SO hard, and yet what extent are these memory problems? Are they causing learning disabilities? Or is it something simple? What is simple? How are they defining this test? I would like to see them retest this again with another group of children. Like maybe ten other groups because for me just like those lovely tests they try and prove CAH children to grow up gay, no matter what 20 people you "survey" a portion of them will be gay WITHOUT CAH. So with the portion they have tested in this research, what portion would already have a memory problem WITHOUT CAH? So many questions comes with research. I am glad at the end of the article it said, "Further testing is encouraged." I agree. I thank you SO much for sharing this article.

For those that have used Dex. and maybe feel bad about it after reading this article, weigh what I said above about the research that you don’t know the entire research plan they used and remember we do all things for the better health of our children. Look at all the things they said were safe, and we did them. Like giving baby asprin to our babies, and having them get Reyes Syndrome (?) from the use. Our mom’s back then didn’t know it could cause that. No one holds them accountable for that choice. I think even with this research I personally would use Dex if I was healthy enough to endure the treatment myself. Because nothing is worse than having my baby endure that surgery crap. But again with all choices we make for our children, it is what works for us.
