I know I have read somewhere that you can’t get accurate cortisol readings while taking steroids. Can anyone enlighten me and especially give me a reference to show the endo? My daughter has been on 2 mgs of prednisone for over a year. She doesn’t have a diagnosis of LOCAH yet (may be a carrier), but has many symptoms. She is seeing a new endo who has ordered a lot of blood work. He just called and said some of her results don’t make sense and wants to repeat some of the tests. The only thing specific he told me is that her cortisol level was 30! The 2 other times it has been tested it was 11 and 14.5. To do the test, he had her skip her pred dose the day BEFORE as well as the morning of the test, and he wants her to do the same for the repeat test. Anyone have any input here? Could the high cortisol level be a "rebound effect" from stopping the pred or be completely inaccurate?Kat
