re: Help...I’m new to this diagnosis

Cindy, my daughter is 8 and has CAH.  I never knew that I had a family member with this disorder until she was 2.   My fraternal Uncle was diagnosed with CAH at age 6, the diagnosis came after he grew 13 inches in 7 months and started getting facial and pubic hair.  That was in the 50’s and Docs didn’t know what they know now. I grew up thinking of him as a normal man, he has two beautiful daughters who just recently graduated from Rutgers and has a well paying job.  Once they figured out what was going on with him, they put him on steroids and he’s lived a fairly normal life. He takes steroids daily and has to stress dose when sick, but he’s 59 years old next month.  Not overweight, shorter than the rest of the family (I’m considered short at 5’11"), but otherwise completely healthy.  From what I understand, males don’t typically have the same complications as females, so just talk to the Endo and be vigilant.  He’ll probably live a somewhat normal healthy life.  Really, if you think about it, what is a NORMAL life anyway? If you’d like me to talk to your daughter, please email me at:  cmdanmyer@hotmail.com  Take Care.
