off topic(autism)

I have met a new family and my daughter and there’s get along pretty well.  They have a six year old boy with mild autism.  I did some researching but could not find an answer to my question.  I wanted to know what my older sons should do when playing with him.  He tends to run up and hit and be really hyper.  He doesn’t hurt, but my kids are unsure of how to handle it.  Is it possible they could have some sort of friendship?  Any suggestions?  I was hoping someone would be familiar with autism.  His parents have him on a gluten free diet, he has celiac also.  I don’t know the parents well enough yet, and I don’t want to put them on the spot, since they seem to always be explaining to onlookers why he is acting the way he does.  I thought this forum was worth a try.
