How old is your daughter?

My daughter was 6 months old when she had her surgery done and we NEVER were told to use those. She has grown nicely into her surgery, and to date have not had any problems with scar tissue. She is almost 10. The surgeon said if she decided to enlarge the opening when she is older, she can choose to do so later, surgically. But now everything looks great and she is comfortable. My own personal opinion is this. If I were given the option to use that method of dialation on my own daughter, I would choose not to. I just can’t imagine this being psychologically healthy for the child. Being held down and "dialated".  it just sounds wrong to me and sickens my own stomach to think of myself having to do this to my own daughter.  I never read any studies on using that method and the outcome so this is just my personal opinion. My daughter’s surgeon suggested to us, that when she can use this method on her own, and if she would need it, then she can do this herself. The surgeon said he has 6 kids of his own and would not use this dialation option if he were ever given the option. Another thing, if your gut is telling you it isn’t right to do, then listen to your gut. God gave us those gut feelings for a reason. I am glad she made it through the surgery and sounds like she is doing great! God bless!
