Jason’s MomHi,
I just gave birth to my third child on March 14. He was born full-term but due to pneumonia he was kept in the NICU and put on antibiotics for 10 days. When doing the newborn screening tests, he tested positive for CAH. They re-tested him by doing both the newborn screening test and testing his hormone levels. The newborn screening test returned negative the 2nd time, but his 17-hydroxy progesterone level was 353.
The hospital’s pediatriac endocrinologist calls this number abnormally high. However, he has not returned my calls; what I’ve learned I know from either his secretary or my pediatrician. The endocrinologist says he doesn’t need to see my son until he is re-tested and he does not want him re-tested for two months.
What is the acceptable level of 17-hydroxy progesterone ? Is a two month waiting period normal, or am I wasting valuable time? Any info you provide will be a help.
Thanks.
