Julie,

I’ve got blonde hair as well, but I’ve got pretty thick hair.  My whole entire life I have had a problem with it falling out a lot more than the average person.  I know that from what I have read and what I believe CAH could possibly be a part of it.  Considering that we’re trying to regulate our hormones, it could very well be the cause of this.  Testosterone in infant boys is not well managed, so that is the cause of them losing their hair at an early age.  Steriods I have also heard can cause hairloss as well.  But I will tell you this when I was her age, I had a problem with growing hair fast too.  It grew so slow, so everytime I cut it, I had to make sure that I was ready to enjoy short hair for quite sometime.  Now that I am older, I do not have this problem with my hair growing as slow.  I just have a problem with it falling out.

Hanni,

Hair falling out is definitely a very serious thing.  Alopecia is the name for it and some forms of it can be an "auto immune" disorder and it could never be fixed.  When we were taking her off the medication, we were trying to see if she had CAH.  Since I had taken dexamethasone throughout my whole pregancy, they said they couldn’t get an accurate reading, unless they took her off completely, did the test, and if she had it, put it back on.  During this little experiment, she started to lose her hair on the top of her head.  (that is why I was wondering if she was undersuppressed)  But my doctor doesn’t feel as though she is undersuppressed.  Off the top of my head she is on 2ml morning, 1ml afternoon, and 1ml evening, so about 4 mg daily.  She is about 22 1/2" long and 12 lbs.

I’m trying to use some head and shoulders on my daughter to take away the dandriff and to see if the hair folicles were just being irritated from that, but if it doesn’t clear up, they want to run some tests on her hemoglobin to see if there is something causing this problem.  The doctors have told me that several types of things can contribute to hair falling out.  Ear infections, iron is too low, been sick, etc.

Thank you ladies for replying back to me, I appreciate your concern.  To me this is not something taken lightly considering that there could be something wrong with her.  She was born with a head full of hair and I know why it fell out the first time, I just don’t understand why it would fall out again.  Unless she has alopecia, dandriff causing it, or undersuppressed.  Her hair fell out last time when she was undersuppressed.
