confusedDear J,
You seem so traumatized by your Child’s CAH and related surgical issues besides ready to rumble with people on the internet. Whatever studies you bring up? I can bring up three more from Europe that will prove that one wrong. But, I will not go there with you and a person has to make a choice and go with it.
You went on and on for months about enlarged clitoris that you wrote wasn’t that big but you thought surgery was right for your child and you also wrote about swimming. I and every on else wrote follow your gut. But, now the rest of this comes out and still we are just people on the internet that don’t know the whole story and aren’t doctors either.
Your post was asking if other people after having surgery done on their child decided to go lost to follow up and I’m amazed that after everything that you’ve written that you would ditch a follow up.
Clitoris reduced (external) = made to fit a mold and that is what it is. Anything else surgery wise? is what it is as well (internal to help with urinary tract pain) .
You wanted her to look normal to you and were uncomfortable with what a few people said and that is Ok. Are you the same poster that was upset that your child didn’t want a bow in her hair?
I asked my Mom about my surgery and she went "It was a judgement call, we trusted the doctors.....had faith and I’d do it again." she quived a little bit and then looked me right in the eye and smiled. She is the strongest, kindest woman that I ever meet in my life and she also went later that she would do anything for me. I love her! Right or wrong was the choice but it just became part of the woven fabric of life.
I was also wondering if you might consider talking with a medical profesional that could help you move through this...get un- stuck because and I quote " everyday I think about my daughter’s surgery and recovery and it is painful" Ok that is sad and maybe Dr. Poppas or http://caresfoundation.org might know of a therapist that can help you gain perspective to more through this and thus you then will benefit yourself and that will benefit your child.
Any medical surgery needs a follow up.
I could write and tell you what nurses still say about CAH and surgery to me. And you just have to roll with it and educate them to were CAH is now or this will eat you up and it has eaten me up at times as well.
