aimeeDear Irving,
I’m sorry that you, your wife ?and the child are in this situation.
In light of the information that you presented in this post- it seems like a paternity test is the only logical answer to resolve this issue without a doubt.
For example what if by chance that your side of the family did carry some sort of CAH regardless if you were the father or not? thus it would look as if you were the parent on just that alone but a paternity test is something separate and known in general being tested over and over in hudreds of circumstances whereas CAH although not that uncommon isn’t as well known.
Genetic testing for CAH would only prove or disprove that some type of CAH is or not in your family. I think and the smart people on this board will correct me if I’m wrong but say just by chance that your family does carry CAH and it happens to be Late Onset CAH (which is 1 in 100 people) then the stronger gene expression of Salt Wasting CAH would present.
I and another poster thought that there might be more than this than meets the eye. I don’t think you care if it’s CAH but you do care if it is your kid (that’s understandable) and you also mentioned something about "......I suppose that I will resolve to pay the several hundred dollars in child and medical support monthly until he reaches 18" which means to me that the relationship is or has been disolving for awhile.
Sad situation that might move all forward to something positive.
take care
