re: Paternity vs. Genetic Testing Question

Irving,

There is absolutely no need to go through genetic testing for CAH, if your basic question/doubt is about paternity. Genetic testing for CAH can be inconclusive, even if paternity is a foregone conclusion. I.e. even if you are absolutely 1000% that the child is yours, CAH genetic testing may not "prove" this.

So, if paternity is the question, get the paternity test. If you are trying to find out which chromosomal mutation the baby has, get the CAH genetic test. Otherwise, you are using the wrong test to answer your question, and may possibly get the wrong, or at least a misleading, answer.

If, however, the paternity test says the baby is yours, then I hope you will accept the fact that CAH DOES run in your family, even if there is no proven history. At that point, it would then be unfair to say, "Well...maybe the paternity test is wrong, and let’s do CAH genetic testing just to be sure." Bottom line, CAH testing does not prove or disprove paternity. Paternity testing proves paternity.
