MeganI am on Armour, Aimee.
It’s complicated this whole thyroid/cortisol interconnection and I haven’t really given it much careful attention. I suppose I should. I am going to the specialist this afternoon who prescribes my Thyroid meds and DHEA, so I will get the latest blood results. If I get a chance I will ask him some more but he is always running so far behind with his appointments I hate to make him even later for his next patients.
When this doctor first checked my thyroid via blood tests the results seemed to be all in range but at the same time when he did a 24 hour urine test the T3 was well below normal. The T4’s sat nicely in range. The creatinines were well below range and the overall T4/Creatinine ratios were well above range. So this doctor said ’Armour’ supplementation was definitely warranted.
I have raised my protein intake to help reduce muscle catabolism (wasting) which was possibly the reason for the low Creatinines. Because corticosteroids have a catabolic effect (not an anabolic effect - as in sports steroids) we have a tendancy to breakdown protein and thus muscle breakdown more readily. So a higher protein diet is necessary.
