If it seems like the appeals process isn’t fair and it’s "rigged", that seems like something an attorney would want to handle on a contingency, especially if it’s a big company. I’m not a lawyer by any means, but the law is (mostly) logical, and if their policy seems like it’s something that needs to be changed, it probably needs a case like this to change it, and you could get some compensation for being on the unfair end of the company’s policy.
