CatherineI had posted to you several days ago but I guess my server had a disconnect.
My son is SWCAH and is 2 1/2 now. From about 5 months to 9 months we called him Sir ’Spitsupalot’ He was not a good eater of solids. I fed him stage 1 pureed food for the longest time. He seemed to gag easily. This wasn’t just my opinion his experienced grandmother of six fed him often and observed it too. It’s funny that gagging. I never thought about that his salt level may have been too low for him to feel well. I know he was slightly oversuppressed during this time, his dose of cortef came down after each level check for the first 1 1/2 year.
Anyway there is NO SALT in breastmilk. It must be supplemented via prescribed sodium chloride or table salt. That being said he often spit it up so it was undoubtedly imprecise dosing. I ended up splitting his salt dose up to six time a day to avoid the vomitting and spitting up. I would give cortef at another time because he never spit that up.
Is your son fully vomitting or spitting up. If it is a more stomache emptying vomiting I would be concerned that he is undersuppressed and his body is reacting.
By the way my son is still a ’sensitive’ eater. He doesn’t spit up or vomit but he can refuse to swallow his food and spit out the chewed food from his mouth. Very frustrating with a small child! I really believe this gagging/appetite issue with CAH little ones is worthy of further study as it is a recurring theme on this board.
