Medic Alert Bracelet or Anklet?? Nov. 18th, 2002 12:41pm
Hi everyone,
Our CAH daughter is starting 4 yo pre-school next year (she is currently doing 3 yo pre-school this year) and we will be getting her a Medic Alert bracelet however I was just wondering at what age people start their children wearing them. Also I would prefer my daughter to wear hers as an anklet so we can be a little more discreet about her suddenly wearing one of these. No doubt there will be people asking lots of questions all of a sudden. Because of the sensitive nature of this condition we have chosen not to tell people/associates/and even some friends that she has a condition (and those who know aren't aware that it is CAH, only that she has an Adrenal Insufficiency). We want her to grow up feeling she is the same as everyone else and not have well-meaning people ask how she is all the time! Now we have a problem...well-meaning people will now be asking "What is her problem?" on sighting the bracelet, yet the bracelet is essential.
What do people think about wearing the bracelet as an anklet? I have been told that ambulence officers and medical emergency personnel always check ankles as well and it is an acceptable thing to do. Do you agree? Has anyone else been through this? I would appreciate some feedback to help us decide.
