Hi - I am the Mum of a five year old SWCAH girl in Geraldton WA. Recently I had to take my girl for her third lot of vaginal surgery to remove what was initially said to be a small lump of fibrous tissue (not sure of exact terminology) from her left inside labia which had been causing her irritation and soreness. What was supposed to be a half hour operation turned into and hour and forty minutes with the surgeon finally reporting to say that they'd removed an extensive cyst and couldn't get all of it due to it's depth and the amount of bleeding. I am upset! This cyst had apparently formed where some outside skin had been sewn in during surgery and had continued growing inside her labia and up to-wards the clitoris. Needless to say, following surgery my girl was very brave but in a lot of pain, not being able to walk to well, everything was swollen and it looked like somebody had put a piece of chopped liver there, not a nice analogy but that's what it looked like. She has coped very well - but trying to explain to her school and well meaning friends has not been easy.
I am very concerned about all the surgery that has been done and about the choices I have made - well lack of choice I suppose, because for the initial and subsequent vaginoplasties no other alternatives or information was offered. Having now done a little Internet research, I have a lot of questions? I now have to take her back to the surgeon in January to assess whether the cyst has gone, grown again etc. And what further action they plan to take.
Had anybody else had this happen? Any comments, advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Karen S
