Dexamethasone while pregnant
Dec. 12th, 2002   4:23am

Hi all

I'm new to this and we have just recently got a computer, My daughter Claudia is 5 in january and has SWCAH.

Since Claudia I have had 2 miscarriages, with these pregnancies I took dexemethasone at 4 weeks, I lost both at around 8 weeks, now I am pregnant again and am 6 weeks. My husband and I have decided not to take dexemethasone as we feel that perhaps there was a link with taking dex and the miscarriages.  My doctor says that there is no evidence to support this however I feel that this time since I can not have a CVS due to the risk of a miscarriage I would have to take dex untill we could guess the sex with ultrasound and that is not accurate, even if it was there is no other way of finding out if the baby has CAH, so if its a girl I could be taking dex during the whole preganancy and the she might not have CAH at all.

Deciding not to take dex has been hard, I feel if it is a girl with CAH my choice will mean she will have to go through surgery as Claudia has.

I am still in the early stages and will be going for an ultrasound next week to determine if there is a heart beat, its all very scary and if I don't loose this one I still have the worry of taking dex vs not taking it.

If anyone has any views or experiences with dex, miscariage etc I would really apreciate hearing from you, THANKS

Michelina
