re: re: Dexamethasone while pregnant
Dec. 15th, 2002   3:14am

I had a misscarriage for my first pregnancy at about 6 weeks, my 2nd was a SWCAH boy, my third i took the dex from 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and had a CVS at 12 1/2 weeks & was a non-CAH boy, my 4th  alos a misscariage at 6 weeks & now my last which I am currently 17 weeks pregnant the same deal as my second son with the dex taking & is a non-CAH girl.  I too was scared more so with the CVS after having had miscarriages but at a 1% rate of losing it through the CVS I thought the risk was worth it, but it is definately a personal choice.  It seems a bit early to me in your previous pregnancies to be starting to take the dex & my endo told me that as long as you start taking it by 10 weeks pregnant it will be a help, 6 1/2 weeks at the earliest.  At least by 10 weeks you would have maybe gotten past the 8 week fear thing but it is a tricky one.  I also worried about the effect of taking dex if my child was non-CAH as yes it is a new drug thing but so is the drugs we give our CAH children as meds have only been around for 30 years or so, so no one really knows the life long effects on there drug-taking so I guess we all just hope for the best. I hope all goes well for you & that you have a healthy child.  I always had to hold in my heart the fact I have had 2 wonderful children & i know I could have another one if my head & heart could survive the trauma of miscarriage, it is hard going I know.  My thoughts are with you.
