How difficult is life with or as a CAH girl?
Aug. 4th, 2003   3:12am

I am a 38 year old mother with 2 boys - a normal 4 year old boy and a 9 month old baby boy with SWCAH.  We love both our boys very, very much and because of them we would love to have a 3rd child.  Having spoken to our Endo, we are up to date with the medical problems if we have a girl with CAH.  That is one side of it - but the other side is the family aspect.  If we were to have a girl with CAH, it's obviously going to be difficult not only for her, but for the parents, the siblings and the extended family - if regular (possibly, extended) hospital visits are required.  But the other thing is, how do the girls themselves feel about living with this, with or without surgery, the daily medication, the stress, any self conconsiousness (especially being a teenager(?)).

I wonder whether we should be happy enough with the 2 beautiful boys we have now or take the risk.

Would love to hear from parents of girls or especially teenage girls, surgically changed or not.

(Please understand I'm not trying to be personal or to pry, I just want to be an sensitive parent-to-be.)

Jenny.
