re: Mum feels alone in NSW Jan. 22nd, 2004 11:49am
Hi. I am also a Mum who feels alone but I live in Queensland. My son has been diagnosed with CAH in 2002 but apparently has had it since birth but it went undected due to the fact he was able to cope with any minor sickness until the time he was diagosed. He is on Hydrocortisone, three times daily. He suffers from moodiness and agression. He seems to be getting worse. He is three years old and turns 4 in September. Does anyone else with a CAH sufferer have to deal with these problems? He also runs away from me (alot of the time it is down town, so going across busy streets and out onto highways is dangerous) but he also wanders away and it is down to the dam or to cattle troughs (we live on a farm) and that is dangerous also. He can be alone or with another group of children at Playgroup, where he climbs the fence to 'escape', so it isn't lonliness!! I've tried to have him to swimming lessons but it was just SO embarrassing by day 4, we decided not to go forth with that idea. The pediatrician said that I have to learn to deal with these outburts but in a public place that can be very difficult - people stare at you, like you should be able to control that child more or even worse, some people actually lecture you. Even though he is only 3 years old, he is 115cm tall already and weighs 22 1/2 kilos, so he has the weight to throw around behind these temper tantrums. Does anyone else have to cope with these sort of problems? We are going to see a dietitician shortly to see if we can do anything with his diet to help the temper problems. Can anyone suggest anything else to help with any of these hurdles?
