re: Need Help-Recently Diagnosed with CAH.
May. 23rd, 2004   1:10pm

Hi Jo,

It must have been both a shock and a relief to be diagnosed with CAH. Do you recall at what age you started to show symptoms?

Dexamethasone is one of the correct corticosteroid medications that can be used in the treatment of CAH. Many CAH adults take Dex. What is the dose that has been prescribed for you?

Most medications have some side-effects. However if you are taking the correct dosage and not an excessive dose (ie. more than you need) then the benefits gained in terms of your health and treatment for CAH should outweigh the disadvantages.

Make sure your doctor monitors your levels and wellbeing regularly - probably three to six monthly at first, then six to twelve monthly once established on medication.

This is a good place to come to talk to others with this disorder. There is also a board specifically dealing with Late Onset CAH issues, it is: http://www.members4.boardhost.com/LOCAH/

I hope all goes well for you.

Rosalie
