re: Daughter with CAH, diagnosed aged 4, now 18. Always overwhelmed Oct. 16th, 2004 10:45am
Hi Kerry
Good to hear from you. Our 5 year old daughter has CAH so can't help you regarding your daughter's current problems. If she is being monitored by a doctor regularly and her levels are OK then perhaps she may be just experiencing 'normal' teenage problems, I know lots of teenagers have problems with weight, pimples, mood swings etc. I know our daughter at times does get overwhelmed with situations, particularly if she's tired and can be very emotional. She tends to 'bottle' things up and doesn't easily get upset, but when she does she gets very distraught. I find it interesting that you mentioned your daughter is very bright. Without sounding like most parents, we think our daughter is extremely intelligent. We have 2 other daughters as well and she is in a different league to them. We often exclaim "she's been here before". She has the most incredible way of thinking and the most amazing memory. I have seen it mentioned on the main board here that some time ago a study was done on the IQ of CAH children. Although no conclusive evidence was found, it was interesting that even such a study was done. Obviously there was some theory that CAH displayed higher intelligence and was worth studying. Maybe there is something in it! Good luck with your daughter, we are not looking forward to the teenage years, especially with 3 daughters!
