When our daughter was born 3 years ago we received a health care card and the careers allowance (about $90 a fortnight). Centrelink sent a letter several weeks ago now and we had to reapply for both. We were told that our daughter was no longer entitled to the allowance but was entitled to the health care card. I'm not going to follow up why the allowance has been stopped, as things have settled down and we are no longer travelling long distances to doctors appointments and medical costs are manageable. But I definitely agree that Centrelink is not consistant. We were told when we initially applied for both that we would receive the allowance until our daughter was five and going to school.
