Hi Kelly,

My two CAH kids didn't sleep through the night until they were a few months old so you probably just have a baby that loves to sleep, yay.  From other families I spoken it seems the 3 times a day is the standard however my son when he was 1 year old took hydracortisone only twice a day for quite a few months as his levels were more on track that way but eventually as he grew he went back to 3 times.

The Support Group did some research on taking steriods without food and the results are in our next newsletter.  Basically Alphapharm's (manufacturer of hysone)advice is all steriods should be taken with food or a glass of milk to avoid acid build up in the stomach.

Unfortunately Adrenal Crisis's are very unpredictable.  Alot of the time you can knock the potential crisis on the head before it even starts by giving a double or triple dose of cortisone at the onset of illness.  I think every parent would agree that it feels like a time bomb over your head until you have experienced a couple because you aren't sure how everything pans out.  All I can say is that it's not as stressful as you would be imagining.  With my children it usually happened first thing in the morning, there would be a faint cry out as they woke and they didn't have the energy to stand up and just layed limp in our arms.  We would give them a triple dose and take them to the Dr's or hospital for an injection, but now we have the injection equipment and just inject them straight away and then go to the hospital.  Some years you have a bad run where they pick up a few illness' and some years you have none.  It's not often the sickness affects them to the point of a crisis.  With my kids it was always those gastro bugs that would hit them hard but everything else they would cope well with double or triple doses.

Hope that helps,

Linda

Linda
